a DICOMDIR is *not* an image.
It's a summary of the Patients/Studies/Series/images, that are usually 
on a CDROM (or in a given directory)
It's used by applications to knowvery quickly (i.e. without having to 
open *all* the files) what is on the CD.
You cannot open it with any Dicom Viewer (e.g. DicomVorks, Xmedcon, 
ImageJ, etc)
