I implemented something which works on Windows at the cost of only
providing 3 overlays (green-purple, red-cyan and blue-yellow). Test
it on your platforms and let me know if you like it like this...
BTW, I think the cvs mailing system is down: I didn't receive David's
commits of last Wednesday.
