Hi Greg,
Have you turned on the correct options when you compiled VTK? The options are:
Set BUILD_SHARED_LIBS to ON
Set VTK_USE_QT to ON
Set VTK_USE_GUISUPPORT to ON
Set VTK_USE_QVTK_QTOPENGL to ON
